Meet Mr. Eben

Chad and I finally made the trip to MA a couple weekends ago to meet our nephew, Eben. The long awaited 7 months greeted us like this:

Nyah was very happy to love on her lil brother. I would catch her just staring at him with much pride and joy. She was eager to lend a hand when Ebi, as she calls him, lost his binki and would put it back in his mouth. She also made sure he had a toy to entertain him at all times.

I don't know who is cuter: my husband or Eben? Who am I kidding, this is a no brainer...sorry Chad! ;-)

Eben is a no fuss little guy and I gotta be honest, is making me want one. It does help that the VERY first time he saw me, he reached up with both hands to me. ::melt my heart::

We had a short, but sweet visit with Erik, Jenny, Nyah and Eben. We can't wait to see them again for Christmas.

Why do I bother?

Considering that my last post was in June and it is now the end of October, I ask myself; why do I bother blogging? I guess I have often answered this in several ways: 1. I don't have enough of an interesting life to keep tabs or even share with the world 2. Maybe I DO have too interesting of a life to have enough time to post (wishful thinking?) 3. I don't like talking/posting about myself 4. No one is interested in hearing what I have to say (I don't blame them) 5. I'm too busy checking out more interesting blogs.....hummm -OR- none of the above and the true answer is that I am just plain lazy! Yeah that is it, I run out of energy and can't muster up the little it takes to keep this up to date. In any case, my New Year's resolution "out the window."

So before I post the most recent happenings in our lives, I'll, for purposes of congruency, try to pick up where I left off.

After my last post in June, I found out that I didn't get the position that I thought I really wanted and decided to recommit myself to where I am. This decision came after thoughtful prayers and the epiphany of the one and only true source of happiness/joy which I already have. This doesn't mean that I can't strive to be happiER (no that is not a typo). I have been very happy with this decision and actually that is yet another answer to my question of not blogging...too busy with work. It has been a lot of fun again and I am so very thankful that the Lord has once again guided me through a tough, but very short period of time. OK that is it for now. I shall post more current things, but wanted to make sure I didn't leave this huge gap here. More to come...hopefully not in 4 months.

My secret

This is a long story, but worth sharing. It has been a little over 2 months since I decided to look for a change in careers. I have applied to a few internal positions with my current company. I have not been aggressive in my search, though. I was feeling guilty about a job offer from my church {this happened out of the clear blue after I had been praying for God’s “will.” I did not apply or look for opportunities with the church; rather I was approached by them}. On May 17th, I decided to do my daily prayer before going to work as I always hope to do, but hardly ever because of not wanting to wake up earlier than necessary. Since I had been feeling guilty of not accepting the job from the church I wanted to ask for forgiveness. I felt like God answered my prayer as I prayed for His will in my search for a new job and the way it came about seemed too fitting. Boy was I ever humbled because that was His will, but I had a different idea. (Lesson learned: be specific in your prayers, but accept His will over your desires). In any case, I truly confessed my sin of not following His answer. I am so thankful that He is a forgiving and loving God.

My daily devotional book, “Grace for the Moment” (Thanks Michelle D.) had this for May 17th - 1 Corinthians 3:9 “For we are God’s fellow workers, you are God’s field, God’s building”

Theme was “No non-sacred moments.” After reading chapter 3, I felt better because it talks about God’s work…how it involves many different individuals with a variety of skills, abilities and their own special role. As long as we work for God, whatever we do is what we are supposed to do. I don’t have to work in a non-profit to do His work which is what I had thought. I can use my talents and still serve Him. I finished getting ready and went into work. I received an email from HR and guess what? It was a request for an interview for one of the positions I applied for, about 2 weeks before. God was at work… the very same day I confessed. He blessed me with an opportunity that I would love to have. The next week or so would prove even more so that God’s hand is in everything. Through my quiet time & daily devotional book I share my journey/secret.

May 18 – Matthew 9:12-13 Jesus said “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. But go and learn what this means ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice’ for I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”

In that scripture Jesus referred to an Old Testament scripture: Hosea 6:6 “For I desire mercy, not sacrifice and acknowledgement of God rather than burnt offerings.” Once again, I was spoken to and assured of my confession. As I mentioned, I was feeling guilty of not taking the job from the church because that would have been a big sacrifice for me and Chad… one that neither one of us would have been ready to make wholeheartedly. Don’t get me wrong I’m not saying that following Jesus doesn’t require sacrifice, but when that sacrifice isn’t made with the heart it’s worthless. God doesn’t want sacrifices; He wants our loving loyalty. He doesn’t want offerings; He wants us to acknowledge Him.

May 19, Wednesday – Romans 8:31 “If God is for us, who can be against us”

I was feeling very nervous because my interview was coming up and I was given some prep notes for it from HR that, to me, was intense and intimidating. I was to prepare for a “Behavioral Interview” which is a formatted way of giving specific experiences in your answers. I was to compile a list of 15-20 professional relationships and think of how I built them, projects worked on with the person, example of going the extra mile and so on. They listed about 12 competencies that I had to demonstrate, by real situations I’ve faced, I had mastered. Needless to say, I had a lot to prepare. God had to be with me on this one! I used this whole week to prepare as he interview was on Monday.

May 24, Monday – 1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”

I was again reassured and thankful for this. Before my interview I know I had some family and friends saying prayers alongside me, leading up to this day and just before. I prayed for God to just calm my nerves and help guide me through it. Guess what? Not only were our prayers answered, I was given a better one. The people I interviewed with told me I wasn’t going to have that kind of interview that HR said I would. PHEWWW I instantly relaxed and was able to focus on being myself instead of a rigid format that I did not want to do. The interview went well and they said they would let me know the following week if I was chosen for a 2nd interview. Chad and I were going to be in Panama City for the long Memorial Day weekend.
I received a call while in PC on Friday evening for a 2nd interview!!! We had a wonderful weekend with my family and somewhat of a mini-reunion. My cousin, Ging flew from NYC and my brother came from Cali.

June 1 – Matthew 4:19 “Come follow me”

June 2 – John 15:4 “Remain I me and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.”

I had my 2nd interview and I didn’t feel as good about this one as the first, but afterwards I felt at peace with whatever would come from it. I have learned that accepting God’s will and seeking Him first is ultimately what will bring true happiness.

June 3 – Philippians 4:12 “I know what it is to be in need and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry whether living in plenty or in want.”

This is what I know and this is what I will practice. I don’t know what will happen with this job I want, but know that I will be happy with whatever the outcome. This is my secret, but I want all to know.

Food & Wine Festival

This past Sunday, Chad and I went down to South Beach for the Food and Wine Festival. We were able to spend some time with Lorine since she was there for work and she showed us the ropes. That was her 3rd day so we hit the good booths. It was so nice to hang out and eat and drink. It was a beautiful sunny day...something we haven't many of this winter. We already plan to go next year. I would highly encourage it to food and/or wine lovers.

Copper Mountain, CO

We just got back from skiing in Copper Mountain, Colorado. We could not have had a better time. Everything went our way and then some. Chad and I went with my high school friend, Angie & her boyfriend, Von who live in D.C. It was more than I had expected. First of all, Angie & Von went out a night earlier than us and picked up our "mini-van." They upgraded our car(I'll give props to our rental company b/c they deserve it....Thrifty rental) w/out us even asking to a brand new white Suburban. Von was estatic b/c he was the driver and I don't think he wanted to sport a mini-van to the mountain so this upgrade started our vaca on the right foot. Chad is now thinking this will be our next vehicle. I doubt it as I'm the one who will be driving our next vehicle and I don't think I can manage it. Then we had fresh snow each day and the locals actually said it was the best "real" snow they've had all winter. We had great luck and a ton of fun.

New Year....new leaf

Happy New Year everyone!!! Since it's a new year, I'd like to start off with one of my resolutions: keeping up with this blog.

It's been a couple months since I've posted so there is quite a bit to share. Unfortunately, I haven't replaced the memory card in our camera so I've had to rely on others to take pictures or lean on my phone so I have limited pictures.

November - was a very busy month. It started off with going to Austin, Texas to join our friend's Dax & Jessica's family for their annual tailgate party. Incidently they played the University of Central Florida (Ria's college). It was a very short trip, but well worth all the food. pics to follow

The following weekend we had a "mock" Thanksgiving with Erik, Jenny & Nyah coming to visit. It was so nice to have them down and Nyah is developing into such a little personality... adorable! Here are a few pics:

Actual Thanksgiving day brought us to Panama City to spend with the Santos' & Smith's. We had wanted to go all along, but didn't think it was possible, but it turned out we were able to and had a great time with the family. Of course, there was a void, but it was nice to be with everyone. I forgot how wonderful our Thanksgivings are with the variety of food. I wish I took pictures. Chad made his 2nd turkey there. My aunt spent all morning making so much food and my mom added to the menu, not surprisingly.
December - Even more busy than November.
I threw a birthday party for my Faith Formation class and brought in cake, goodies & games. One of the things I had the students do was to share 1 gift they were going to give the birthday boy. Many of the students said they would give him love and prayers etc. Probably the funniest gift was when a student said "well if I could give Jesus one thing, it would be an American Express gift card so he could buy anything he wanted with it." It took all of my to not crack up laughing.

Our 1st Christmas tree. It seems like we had 2 of everything this holiday season. I say our 1st tree because we had to get another tree a few weeks after getting this one. Why? We bought this one the Sunday after Thanksgiving and Chad went out of town for the next week. He usually does the taking care of live things in our home: plants, animals etc. Since he wasn't there it was neglected and died shortly after he returned from his work trip. We had 2 1/2 more weeks until Christmas; hence our 2nd tree. ooops, sorry ;-( I'll save on paper to make it up to our environment.
This is the culprit who forgot to water the tree. He's good for nothing. ha ha

We celebrated Christmas with Chad's side of the family Dec. 15th weekend. We had plenty of food and SNOW!!! This is Chad having fun with Nyah and Annie, one of 2 goldens of Bill & Carol's.

Did I tell you we got a lot of SNOW? Our flight was cancelled the Sunday we were suppose to leave and didn't get on a flight until Tuesday so we made the most of our 2 extra days by going to Mt. Washington in New Hampshire where we do a lot of our skiing/snowboarding. This mountain is known as having the world's worst wind speed (yes WORLD).

On actual Christmas Day, it was just me and Chad. As much as we would have loved to be with either side of our families, we made the most of it. This is City Place in West Palm Beach and was Christmas Eve. There was "snow" made and lots of people to enjoy pretending to have a white Christmas.

The month of December was full of food, fun, parties and more food as prepared to ring in the new year.
Jan - New Year's Eve was spent with Pam and Kenny as they hosted a small gathering to celebrate. More food, fun and good people.


The following day, we headed up to Orlando to finish off our Christmas celebrations with the Santos family. You wouldn't have thought you were in Florida with the temperature at around 35 the entire weekend. Again, this is where not having my own camera puts me at a disadvantage due to lack of proof of all the fun we had. We went to this ICE! show at the Gaylord Palms Resort a walk-through Christmas attraction hand-carved from nearly TWO MILLION pounds of ice kept at 9 degrees Fahrenheit.

It's Sunday evening and reality is setting in that I get back to reality and leave the past 2 months of wonderful memories just as that. I'll try to post more pictures.
